«El Sur» de Borges: un espacio de muerte

    En este artículo se aborda el proceso de creación literaria y artística en Jorge Luis Borges a través del cuento «El Sur». El análisis se enfoca en la organización que sostiene la representación del relato, considerando la secuencialidad lógica de los programas narrativos, configuraciones discursivas, recorridos figurativos y roles temáticos, como una manera de deconstruir la producción de sentido. El núcleo del cuento va de la lectura a la muerte como un espacio donde Juan Dahlmann (un romántico bibliotecario) y la figura de la biblioteca, son ámbitos de seducción y sueño. Junto a ello, se encuentra el texto en el texto a través de Las mil y una noches, Martín Fierro y Pablo y Virginia. En esta red de relaciones, se configura un tejido de tres líneas isotópicas: lectura/escritura, vida/muerte y espacio/tiempo.

    This article analyzes the literary and artistic process that takes place in Jorge Luis Borges’s short story “El Sur”. The analysis focuses on the organization that sustains the representation of the narration considering the logical sequencing of narrative programs, discoursive configurations, figurative orders, and thematic roles. This procedure aims at deconstructing the production of meaning. The core of Borges’s story progresses from reading to death as a space where Juan Dahlmann (a romantic librarian) and the image of the library itself are subjected to seduction and dream. In correspondence with this core we find a text-within-atext device as Las mil y una noches, Martín Fierro, and Pablo y Virginia become discernible.

    The network of these relations allows for the emergence of three isotopic lines:

    reading/writing, life/death, and space/time
