A classroom interdisciplinary activity at Teacher Training Degree level is presented in this article. It introduces the Mayan number system and numeric base conversion, in order the students to implement the corresponding procedures in the computer algebra system Maple. What started as a brief cooperation diring the academic year course 2008-2009 has turned to be a succesful activity that has ocupied three sessions of the electivw subjet Educational Applications of Computer Algebra Systems and has given raise to a curious set of Maple procedures.
