  Resumen Concepto La nutrición parenteral (NP) consiste en la administración de nutrientes directamente en el torrente sanguíneo. Indicaciones Actualmente ha adquirido una gran relevancia en el curso de la atención hospitalaria y es una parte integral del tratamiento médico de aquellos pacientes que no tienen un tracto gastrointestinal funcionante o accesible o en los que no es posible mantener un adecuado estado nutricional con alimentación natural o enteral. Selección de la fórmula nutricional Su utilización requiere una valoración individualizada de cada paciente y lo más habitual es diseñar una fórmula específica para cada uno.
