Resumen de Desempenho e etnia: um estudo no processo seletivo em uma instituição federal de ensino no Brasil

  The study aims to investigate whether the variable ethnicity influences the final outcome of the selection process for the technical level in a Federal Institution of Education in Brazil that did not adopt the system of quotas for blacks, mulattos and Indians in 2012. It was verified the performance of 5.631 candidates for the contest, using descriptive statistics and multivariate regression for the analysis of the data. The main findings suggest that ethnicity, although statistically significant, has little contribution to performance. In contrast, the variables that generate the greatest impact are kind of school when in the public school system, and age, producing a significant reduction in income. These findings are consistent with the literature in that there is no material impact of the ethnicity on the final performance of selection processes, especially when compared, for example, with the educational institution

  O estudo objetiva investigar se a variável etnia influencia no resultado final do processo seletivo para o nível técnico em uma Instituição Federal de Ensino, no Brasil, que não adotou o sistema de cotas para negros, pardos e indígenas, em 2012. Foi verificado o desempenho de 5.631 candidatos ao certame, utilizando-se a estatística descritiva e a regressão multivariada para a análise dos dados. Os principais resultados encontrados sugerem que a etnia, embora estatisticamente significativa, apresenta pouca contribuição ao desempenho. Em contrapartida, as variáveis que geram maior impacto são o tipo de escola, quando da rede pública de ensino, e a idade, produzindo uma redução expressiva no resultado. Estes achados estão de acordo com a literatura em que não se verifica impacto relevante da etnia no desempenho final de processos seletivos, especialmente quando comparada, por exemplo, com o tipo de escola.
