Benzodiacepinas: Narrativas de adicción y recuperación de una anestesióloga

    Recientemente se ha registrado un incremento en el abuso de medicamentos de prescripción. Los médicos anestesiólogos se encuentran en riesgo por su excesiva carga laboral y por el fácil acceso que tienen a la sustancia. Se realizó un estudio de caso único con diseño narrativo. Se aplicó una entrevista a profundidad con una anestesióloga, con el objetivo de conocer las narrativas de adicción a las benzodiacepinas y de recuperación.

    Se realizó un análisis narrativo formal para identificar la trayectoria del relato y establecer las principales etapas transitadas desde el inicio del consumo hasta la rehabilitación. Adicionalmente, se llevó a cabo un análisis narrativo categórico mediante el software MAXQDA versión 12, a fin de identificar los principales temas presentes en el relato de la participante. Los resultados muestran que si bien el inicio del consumo se presenta durante prescripción médica, diversos sucesos esperados en la etapa de vida de la participante, desencadenan la adicción. La falta de redes de apoyo y su estatus laboral impiden la búsqueda oportuna de tratamiento. El apoyo familiar y social, así como el desarrollo de la espiritualidad, son identificados como los elementos principales que permiten la recuperación.

    Recently there has been an increase in the abuse of prescription drugs. Anesthesiologists are at risk for excessive workload and the easy access they have to the substance. A single case study was conducted with narrative design. An in-depth interview was conducted with an anesthesiologist, with the aim of knowing the narratives of addiction to benzodiazepines and recovery.

    A formal narrative analysis was performed to identify the trajectory of the story and the primary transited stages from the beginning of consumption to rehabilitation.

    Additionally, a categorical narrative analysis was done using the MAXQDA software version 12, to identify the main themes in the account of the participant. The results show that while consumption initiation occurs during medical prescription, various events expected at the life stage of the participant, trigger addiction. The lack of support networks and employment status prevents timely treatment seeking. Family and social support and development of spirituality, are identified as key elements that allow recovery.
