Plagio académico en estudiantes de bachillerato: ¿qué detecta TURNITIN?

    Los objetivos de este trabajo fueron: identificar las principales formas de plagio academico entre estudiantes de bachillerato y determinar la utilidad de Turnitin para detectarlos. Se analizaron 137 ensayos academicos de 52 estudiantes. Para evaluar el desempeno del IGS de Turnitin como predictor de plagio se empleo la metodologia de las curvas ROC. Las principales formas de plagio fueron la ausencia de citas, el Copy-Paste, asi como la parafrasis y citacion incorrectas con 86,9%; 62,8%; 47,4%; 43,8% respectivamente. El area bajo la curva ROC empleando el IGS como predictor de estas formas de plagio fue adecuada para proponer esta herramienta en la deteccion de copias procedentes de internet, mas no de fuentes impresas. Con un IGS . 14% se clasifican correctamente mas del 80% de los trabajos entregados y revisados por esta herramienta

    The aims of this study were to identify the main forms of academic plagiarism among high school students and determine the usefulness of Turnitin to detect them. 137 academic papers of 52 students were analyzed. To evaluate the performance of Turnitin IGS as a predictor of plagiarism, the ROC curves methodology was used. The main forms of plagiarism were the absence of quotations, the Copy-Paste and incorrect paraphrasing and citation with 86.9%; 62.8%; 47.4%; 43.8% respectively. The area under ROC curve using the IGS as a predictor of these forms of plagiarism was appropriate to propose this tool for detecting copies from the Internet, but not from printed sources. With a cutoff point for IGS . 14% this tool correctly classified more than 80% of the assays submitted
