A reflection on the Navarrese emigration to the Americas during the Modern Age would allow us, first of all, to present how migrants understood their own identity and their relationship with the land of origin (nostalgia, ethnic conscience and the formation of "colonies" of fellow countrymen); and on the second hand, to present how they viewed the strangeness of the New World the were living in, this is, the image of the other. In order to deep into this topic, and also to find the limits of this approach, we will primarily use the testimonies of the witnesses and protagonists.
Aro Berriko Ameriketako nafar emigrazioaren irudiaz arituko gara, alde batetik, emigranteek sorterriarekiko beren burua nola ikusi edo irudikatu zuten emigrazio prozesuan (herrimina, taldeko kontzientzia eta herrikideen koloniak osatzea) eta, bestetik, nola ikusi zuten aurkitutako Mundu Berria edo arrotza zena, hots, zentzu zabalean bestearen inguruko irudia. Hau dena hurbilagotik ezagutzeko, eta bere muga guztiak aitortuz, protagonisten testigantzak ezin hobeak dira.
