    En este artículo se abordan algunas de las creencias y actitudes en torno a la muerte, vividas en el Aragón de finales de la Edad Media. Se repara en la presencia del sentimiento macabro, de la muerte y del más allá en las fiestas de coronación de los reyes aragoneses, al tiempo se pone de manifiesto el problema que para la iglesia suponía el agnosticismo y la negación de la resurrección y de la vida futura por parte de algunas gentes. Se indaga en diversas imágenes sobre el más allá y se retoman testamentos y mandas testamentarias para focalizar la atención en algunas lejas muy poco o nada explora-das hasta la fecha: encargos de cálices (indicador del arraigo y expansión del culto eucarístico), exvotos de cera (escasamente documentados en los textos) y restauraciones de imágenes sagradas de los templos.

    This article tackles rituals and beliefs around death in the Kingdom of Aragon at the end of the Middle Ages. The presence of both the so-called macabre feeling and death and the afterlife are considered in Aragonese royal coronation parties. At the same time, it becomes clear that the Church had to deal with the fact that some people were agnostic and therefore rejected the idea of resurrection and afterlife. We inquire into diverse eschatological conceptions and consider testaments to focus our audience’s attention on some pious endowments that often have been overlooked: for example, the act of ordering chalices (an indicator of the rootedness and diffusion of the eucharistic cult), wax ex-votos (so scarcely documented) and the restauration of holy images located in temples.
