Resumen de Mise en oeuvre d'une approche globale des textiles anciens au Centre de recherche sur les textiles de Copenhague

Eva Andersson Strand, Ulla Mannering, Marie-Louise B. Nosch

  • Developing an integrated approach to ancient textiles at the Centre for Textile Research in Copenhagen, 2005-2015.

Textile studies in Scandinavia are enriched by the preservation of ancient textiles and the tradition of experimental archaelogy. We begin by describing the origins of the discipline in the 19th century and its subsequent development. Current approaches to textile research are then discussed from the perspective of new methodologies, sources, and academic collaboration, giving rise to considerations of the theoretical bases of the discipline. The CTR has further developed existing scholary traditions and networks and is an innovator in the field; our primary achievement is to have consolidated textile research, developing interdisciplinarity and innovation in teaching and research. Textile studies are now anchored in both the humanities and the social and natural sciences. New questions engender new thinking, and we conclude by discussing future directions for subsequent generations of scholars dealing with the new theoretical frameworks and increasing data on textiles.
