    J.-Cl. Richard and J. Gascou. — New inscriptions from Murviel-les-Montpellier (Hérault), Revue Archéologique de Nar- bonnaise, t. 25, 1992, p. 443-454. This study deals with new inscriptions from Murviel les Montpellier : one of them mentions a freed slave, Caius Messius Sulla ; the inscription kept in Montpellier and already listed in the CIL, XI 1 (N° 4202) had not been read by O. Hirschfeld and its exact origin was unknown. Thanks to a second inscription recently discovered in Murviel and bearing the name of the owner of the freed slave mentioned above, Caius Messius Balbus, and very likely like the latter one can suppose that both inscriptions originated from the same place. The third inscription also found in Murviel and known since the 17th century, was once considered as made up by O. Hirschfeld and published among the falsae (CIL, XII, 272*). Thanks to this new discovery and to another reading which was then done, and which was recently confirmed, correcting the text of the CIL, it is possible to establish with centainty its authenticity.

    Étude de nouvelles inscriptions de Murviel-lès-Montpellier : l'une, mentionnant un affranchi, Caius Messius Sulla, et conservée à Montpellier, figurait déjà au CIL, XII (n° 4202), mais n'avait pas été relue par O. Hirschfeld, et son origine exacte était inconnue. Grâce à une seconde inscription récemment découverte à Murviel et comportant le nom du patron de l'affranchi précité, Caius Messius Balbus, et offrant de notables ressemblances avec la précédente, on peut supposer qu'elle avait la même origine. La troisième inscription, trouvée aussi à Murviel et connue depuis le xvne siècle, fut considérée comme forgée par O. Hirschfeld et publiée parmi les falsae (CIL, XII, 272*). Grâce à sa redécouverte en 1933 et à la relecture (restée inédite) qui en fut faite alors et qui a pu être confirmée récemment, corrigeant le texte du CIL, il est possible d'établir avec certitude son authenticité.
