Resumen de Do emprego da palavra "história" no Prefácio Epistolar da História Natural de Plínio, o Velho (séc. I d.C.)

Neste artigo abordamos o uso da palavra “história” feito por Plínio, o Velho em seu Prefácio Epistolar da História Natural. Assim, analisaremos as quatro menções a esta palavra, cada qual com um tipo de abordagem específica. Ora temos o uso da palavra como indicativo do título da própria História Natural; ora como indicativo da obra de Tito Lívio; ora expressando o título de outra obra de Plínio, o Velho; ora para citar a obra de um autor grego. Com isto, temos como objetivo apresentar outra possibilidade de leitura da obra pliniana, qual seja, pelo viés histórico e não pelo enciclopedismo.

In this article we approach the use of the word “history” done by Pliny, the Elder in his epistolary Preface of the Natural History. Thereby, we will analyze the four mentions to the word “history” that appear in the Preface, each one with a specific type of approach. Occasionally we have the use of this word as an indicative of the title of Natural History itself; some other times as an indicative of Livy’s work; at times it express the title of another Pliny’s work; sometimes to quote the work of a greek author. Therewith our objective is to present another reading possibility to Pliny’s work, which is from the historical bias and not from the encyclopaedism one.
