    El tema de esta comunicación analiza tres aspectos muy específicos de la antigua ciudad de Heliópolis, la egipcia Iunu, el núcleo urbano más relevante del nomo XIII del Delta. El primero, la etimología de la ciudad y algunas de las incertidumbres que plantea; el segundo, la organización de su territorio en época faraónica, la cual es posible conocer a través de algunos topónimos muy vinculados a Iunu; y el tercero, la pervivencia en la época imperial romana del culto al toro sagrado heliopolitano Mnevis. Los tres aspectos convergen en la obra del naturalista romano Plinio por distintas razones, y éste ha servido tanto de inspiración como de hilo conductor a este trabajo.

    “In Solis urbe, ubi fuit Mnevidis regia”: Heliopolitan echoes in Pliny. Etymologies and theonyms of Iunu This paper focuses on three specific aspects of ancient Heliopolis, Egyptian Iunu and the largest city of nome XIII at the apex of the Delta. First, the etymology of the city and some of the problems that this produces; second, the organization of its territory in the pharaonic period, which it is possible to discover through toponyms which have close associations with Iunu; and third, the perpetuation of the heliopolitan cult of the sacred bull Mnevis during Roman rule in Egypt. These three aspects, for distinct reasons converge in Pliny the Elder’s Natural History, which has served as inspiration as well as a common thread running through this work.
