  • Resumen
    • This project constitutes a phase of the investigation which is being carried out by the Innovations Directorate of RENFE concerning the trial stretch of slab-based track, 4100 meters in length, constructed between Ricla and Calatorao in the province of Zaragoza. The constructional characteristics and details of this stretch were subject of another article which was published in edition number 8 of this magazine in February 1976.

Data is given regarding traffic, climatological conditions, external factors which influence the behavior of slab based permanent way.

Geometric control of the track is demonstrated by means of measurements effected on three characteristic dates of the principle standardized parameters that determine it. The evolution of the number and disposition of the fissures formed in the reinforced concrete slab as a result of contraction and thermal influences is also demonstrated.

Regarding the geotechnical characteristics of the bed, the variation of the bearing power of the ground has been determined over different periods of the year, and also its expansion compression factors.

Mechanical tests of the rail-anchoring-elastomer combination are composed of two parts: on the spot measurement of rail movement in relation to the reinforced slab, and the second part, made up of laboratory tests to determine the ballast coefficient of the elastomer and the resilience constant of the fixture clamps. The pressures the elastomer is submitted to by the action of a goods train is demonstrated by isobar curves.

Comparative sonometry tests have been made between a ballasted track and one of RS sleepers.

Finally, a theoretical model is proposed for the calculation of deformations and tensions of the track and this is compared with the readings taken on the permanent way.
