Resumen de The Profile of the students as prosumers in web 2.0

Javier Sarsa Garrido

  • Since the beginning of the Web 2.0, many authors state that the 2.0 educational possibilities are huge and that 2.0 full exploitation has not been still achieved. There are numerous discrepancies in the consideration of social networks and other 2.0 websites as learning tools. In this paper we are trying to move forward on this question. Therefore, we have carried out a research with students whose average age allows classifying them as digital natives. We wish to know what degree they are using several well-known 2.0 websites and how they place them in respect of the learning opportunities they offer. Also, we propose a simple indicator which helps us know the production-consumption ratio of the students in those websites. The obtained results indicate that a high percentage of the studied sample has an absolutely consumer profile. And only a few cases could be described as prosumers or moderate producers. From all of these data, we identify the need for teachers to help their students to unveil the existence of new 2.0 websites related to their subjects and to promote creation, collaboration and publishing tasks which allow the students to overcome the barrier they have in this aspect.
