Resumen de El espacio del saber: la Biblioteca

  Una biblioteca, además de una colección de libros, es un lugar, un mobiliario, un conjunto de técnicos y de técnicas (clasificar, ordenar, describir, instalar, restaurar…) y una comunidad de usuarios. Si a la palabra biblioteca le añadimos el adjetivo catedralicia vinculamos el conjunto bibliográfico a una institución –promotora y usuaria- que, de algún modo, se verá reflejada en ella. Si, además, retrocedemos en el tiempo, la imagen espacial cambiará, pues en vez de un solo recinto custodio, habremos de pensar en varios emplazamientos atendiendo –en principio- a la función y a la utilización de los ejemplares o al valor que se les supone en un momento dado. No en vano, la biblioteca como espacio del saber, permite, considerando la naturaleza y la función de los libros, acotar el campo bibliográfico abordado y, a la vez, delimitar también el ámbito espacial. Así, hemos de excluir tanto los volúmenes de archivo como los ejemplares litúrgicos. En resumen, serán los vehículos del conocimiento -piezas ligadas a la formación intelectual, instrumentos para la enseñanza y estrechamente vinculados a las escuelas catedralicias- los que centrarán nuestra atención

  A library, besides a book collection, is a place, a furniture, a set of technicians and techniques (to classify, to order, to describe, to install, to restore…) and a community of users. If to the word library we add the cathedral adjective to him we link the bibliographical set to an institution – promoter and usuary- that, somehow, will be reflected in her. If, in addition, we move back in the time, the space image will change, because instead of a single center custodian, we will have to think about several locations taking care of – in principle- the function and the use of the units or the value that assume to them at a certain time. Not in vain, the library like space of the knowledge, allows, considering the nature and the function of books, to limit the boarded bibliographical field and, simultaneously, to delimit also the space scope. Thus, we have to exclude so much the volumes from file as the liturgical units. In short, they will be the vehicles of the knowledge – pieces tied to the intellectual training -instruments for the education and narrowly linked to the cathedral schools- those that will center our attention
