  Esta contribución tiene como finalidad de analizar el sentido del concepto de monumento. Referido a la memoria de una figura importante o para recordar un evento histórico, de la antigüedad (con arcos, obeliscos o monumentos fúnebres), hasta la primera mitad del siglo XX, por ejemplo con los memoriales por las dos guerras mundiales, la idea del monumento ha adquirido un sentido difuso, no sólo referido a los edificios históricos de conservar, pero también con funciones sociales. El monumento se ha vuelto el lugar de referencia. En las nuestras ciudades contemporáneas la idea del monumento, de valor simbólico, se ha vuelto imagen de los Archistar; así es el nombre del arquitecto y no el valor de un edificio a ser importante. Pero este aspecto ha revelado pronto su pobreza; en efecto en muchos casos la gente ahora investiga y reconoce como monumento no más un edificio histórico pero lugares en que es posible vivir la pertenencia a la misma comunidad.

  The aim of this essay is to analyze the shift of meaning of the idea of monument. Referred to the memory of an important figure or reminding to an historical event from antiquity (with arches, obelisks or funeral monuments) to the first half of the XXth century (for example with the Memorials for the World Wars), the idea of monument has after gained a diffuse meaning, referred to historical buildings to preserve, but also with a social function: the place to refer to.

  In our contemporary cities the idea of monument, from a symbolical value, has been after referred to buildings of the Archi-stars, so that it�s the name of the architect and not the value of a building to be important.

  But this aspect has soon revealed its poverty, especially in many cases of imitations, and people now search and recognize as a monument non more a historical building but places in which it�s possible to live the idea of its own community.
