  • Last decades have produced an important practical activity on urban and architectural heritage conservation in Cuba. Those internationally recognized achievements have been supported by a developing and sometimes polemic theoretical corpus.

    This is what has happened for instance in points of view with regard to in-fill of contemporary architecture, tourism management, heritage categories and modern movement. The aim of this paper is to try to characterize some of the theoretical approaches mainly to heritage values and their relationship to international trends, with a particular emphasis to authenticity and integrity, as part of current debate. Although dangerous because of the possibility of arriving to wrong conclusions, it has been tried to search for theoretical roots in practical solutions.
