  Es aquí mi propósito intentar contar esta historia, una historia apasionante, la historia de un descubrimiento, có- mo por primera vez en la historia del mundo surgen y se descubren las posibilidades, las técnicas y complejidad de un arte que llegará a alcanzar en nuestros días un lugar preeminente en la historia de las bellas artes.

  It is intended here to build up the story of Greek painting found in different remains such as in ceramics, decorations of roman musivarias, the painting of Etruscn tombs or of literature. A study has been carried out of the principal artists and their characteristcs, analysing at the same time the technique used to solve extensive pictorial problems such as the use of light and shade, perspective and the new use of the colour.
