El trabajo que presentamos trata de esclarecer los avatares del Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de La Palma durante los años más oscuros de la dictadura franquista. Para ello, nos ayudaremos de la figura de D. José Pérez Vidal, profesor entre 1942 y 1948, primero de Latín y, más tarde, de Lengua y Literatura españolas. Sus propuestas renovadoras y su estímulo constante hacia los alumnos fueron desdeñados y perseguidos por las autoridades y por sus propios compañeros de clase.

The present paper attempts to clarify the vicissitudes of the Secondary school of La Palma during the darkest years of the Franco dictatorship. To do this, we will help the figure of D. José Pérez Vidal, a professor from 1942 to 1948, first in Latin and, later, Spanish Language and Literature. His reformist proposals and his constant encouragement to the students were despised and persecuted by the authorities and coworkers.
