The body in cognitive semanticsAs an alternative to cognitivism-computationalism, the experientialist paradigm reintroduces the body into the theories of cognition. In this context, based the concept of image-schema, cognitive semantics proposes a common embodied ground to the understanding of experience and to the understanding of language. In doing so, it views communication as based not on the ability of individuals to process symbols with objective meanings, but on an intersubjectivity between individuals sharing a common embodied, socially- and culturally situated experience.

Se posant en alternative au cognitivisme-computationnalisme, le paradigme expérientialiste réintroduit le corps vécu au sein des théories de la cognition. Dans ce contexte, la sémantique cognitive propose, notamment au départ du concept de schémaimage, un fondement incarné commun à la compréhension de l’expérience et la compréhension du langage. Ce faisant, elle fait reposer la communication non plus sur la capacité des individus à traiter des symboles dotés de significations objectives, mais sur une intersubjectivité entre individus, partageant une expérience commune, incarnée et située socialement et culturellement.
