Resumen de Questionner la signification sociale d’un indice prosodique de l’accent dit de banlieue en France

The present study investigates the social meaning of a specific prosodic pattern, which has been identified as essential to the suburban accent identification by the listeners. Based on data collected during a wide field survey in the suburb of Rouen, the study has been conducted within the framework of a variationist approach, which also includes some qualitative analysis. The results show the importance of the latter in order to better understand the social meaning of phonetic variables

En s’appuyant sur les données d’une vaste enquête de terrain menée à Rouen, l’étude vise à saisir, dans une approche essentiellement variationniste, la signification sociale d’une marque phonique non standard identifiée comme spécifique de l’accent dit « de banlieue ». Ce faisant, elle souligne les limites de l’approche adoptée et l’apport des analyses plus qualitatives, permettant de mieux appréhender la complexité du terrain et les mécanismes mis en jeu dans les processus de différenciation sociale et langagière.
