    Durante mucho tiempo los museos militares de los estados-nación fueron planteados como espacios propagandísticos de exaltación de los valores patrióticos y militaristas. En el marco de la sociedad del conocimiento, el tratamiento del patrimonio militar se replantea, cada vez más, desde lógicas estrictamente cintíficas y civiles.

    A los seres humanos les interesa todo aquello que afecta a los seres humanos, y en este sentido es lógico el creciente interés por conocer los terribles episodios bélicos del siglo XX. Para afrontar y dar a conocer este pasado reciente están proliferando nuevos modelos museográficos a fin de presentar, a parte de los hechos concretos, la tecnología, la cultura y la vida cotidiana en los contextos de guerra. También proliferan las instalaciones y las intervenciones singulares: museización de la arquitectura bélica, artefactos o campos de batalla. En conjunto representa un giro copernicano de normalización científica en la presentación del fenómeno de la guerra y el patrimonio militar.

    There was a time when the military museums of nation-states were used for propaganda purposes and for the extolling of patriotic and militaristic values. Now, in the context of the knowledge society, the way we deal with our military heritage is being increasingly rethought along strictly scientific and civil lines.

    We humans have a natural interest in everything that affects our fellow-beings. It is therefore logical that we should want to know about the terrible wars of the 20th century. Our need to confront and learn about such events from our recent past is being addressed by a proliferation of a new kind of museum: instead of just the bare facts, these museums also show us technology, culture and daily life in times of war.

    We are also seeing an increasing number of unique installations and projects set up to bring the architecture, the artefacts and even the battlefields of war into our museums. All in all, this represents a radical turnaround and a scientific normalisation in presenting the phenomenon of war and our military heritage.
