O Senhor dos Anéis: a tradução da simbologia do anel do livro para o cinema.

    Nowadays, many books have been translated to the screen, and we always hear critics comparing the literary work with its adaptation. An adaptation does not have to be a copy of the work firstly created, once it is being translated into another system of signs. Since film adaptation is a transmutation of a verbal text into a non-verbal one, it has been for a long time considered something that changes the text created initially. For this reason, what we call today intersemiotic translation, has not been considered translation for years. Therefore, based on Jakobson (1991), this research assumes that filmic adaptation is translation, and chooses the book by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: the fellowship of the Ring, and the homonymous film by Peter Jackson, as the corpus for the analysis. Certainly, there are many symbols in the film, and, among them, the Ring is the most relevant. This work does not aim at making any value judgment between the book and the film’s Ring, but analyzomg the strategies used by the director in order to take such a symbol to the screen.

    Atualmente, muitos livros têm sido traduzidos para a tela, e sempre se ouve críticas comparando o trabalho literário com sua adaptação. Uma adaptação não tem que ser uma cópia do trabalho criado primeiramente, já que está sendo traduzido para outro sistema de signos. Como uma adaptação fílmica é uma transmutação de um texto verbal em um não-verbal, ela tem sido há muito tempo considerada como algo que muda o texto criado primeiramente e, por isso, o que hoje é chamado de tradução intersemiótica, durante anos não foi considerado tradução. Assim, apoiado em Jakobson (1991), esta pesquisa parte do pressuposto de que a adaptação fílmica é tradução, e adota o livro de J.R.R. Tolkien, O Senhor dos Anéis: a sociedade do Anel, e o filme homônimo de Peter Jackson como corpus da análise. Certamente há um grande número de símbolos no filme e, dentre estes, o Anel é obviamente o mais relevante. O objetivo deste trabalho não é fazer nenhum juízo de valor entre o Anel do livro e o do filme, mas analisar as estratégias usadas pelo diretor para traduzir tal símbolo para a tela.
