A Biblioteca Pública como local difusor de leitura e informação necessita ter: infra-estrutura básica para sua manutenção, recursos humanos qualificados, espaço físico adequado, material bibliográfico que atenda às necessidades dos leitores, e projetos que visem à democratização da leitura. O objetivo do presente estudo é apresentar o levantamento sobre a presença das Bibliotecas Públicas Estaduais brasileiras na Internet. A metodologia consiste em: a) realizar o levantamento das Bibliotecas Públicas Estaduais; b) buscar as páginas ou sites oficiais das instituições pelo mecanismo de busca Google; c) apontar os endereços eletrônicos e de serviços online; d) apresentar o endereço tradicional. Apresenta os resultados: todas bibliotecas possuem e-mail, 19 das 27 bibliotecas apresentam sites, e destas 5 disponibilizam o catálogo online. Sugere-se dinamizar projetos para disponibilizar serviços e produtos na Internet das Bibliotecas Públicas para fortalecer o acesso à informação e ao direito humanitário básico – o direito à leitura.
Abstract: The Public Library is a local reading diffuser and information needs must have: basic infrastructure for its maintenance, qualified human resources, adequate space, bibliographical material that meet readers necessities, and projects that focus the reading democratization. The objective of this study is to present the survey about the presence of Brazilians Public Libraries States in the Internet. The methodology consists: a) conduct the survey about Public Libraries State; b) using Google to search pages or official sites of the institutions; c) point the electronic address and services online; d) give the traditional address. Results: all libraries have e-mail, 19 of the 27 libraries present sites, and 5 of these with online catalogue. Suggested to do dynamics projects to show the services and products of the libraries on the web to increase the presence of Public Libraries and offer the humanity right to information access and the humanitarian right - the right to reading.
