  • The challenge faced by higher education institutions to train highly competitive professionals demands a new paradigm shift in teaching and learning. This paper intends to raise the importance of the implementation of engaging learning experiences that help in the formation of people able to interpret phenomena and events that occur in their environment, through the involvement of students in real-world projects where to develop and apply skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom, so they can provide solutions to the problems facing businesses in an increasingly globalized world.

    Moreover, the Government of Mexico through its National Development Plan 2013-2018 recognizes the link between education and the labor market as one of their most pressing strategies. This implies that the education system should pay attention to the labor demands of the productive sector , so that the result of a higher education professionals are able to provide solutions that will contribute to economic and social progress of its surroundings .

    Faced with this challenge , the Polytechnic University of the Gulf of Mexico , through their teachers , who play a key role in the training of students , implement the methodology of project-based learning (PBL ) , in order for students to experience the ways of interacting that current world demand , in addition to positively combine learning basic content and skills development that increase autonomy in learning. Moreover high motivation in students , as their projects contribute in meeting a social need , which strengthens the values and student engagement with the environment is conducive.
