En este trabajo se han estudiado varias aportaciones historiográficas novedosas que conciernen tanto a la vida como a la obra del médico y antropólogo de Telde. Han sido analizados tres puntos fundamentales: l. Su pronta recepción de los evolucionismos darwinista y haeckeliano, contándose entre los primeros autores españoles que los asimilan; 2. Que no fue excomulgado por el Obispo de la diócesis; y 3. La polarización ideológica con la que el propio Chil sesgó su pensamiento científico y sus descubrimientos.

In this work several new historiographic contributions conceming both the life and the work of the physician and anthropologist from Telde have been studied. Three main points have been analysed: l. His prompt reception ofthe darwinist and haeckelian evolutionisms, being one of the first Spanish authors who assimilate them; 2. He was not excommunicated by the bishop ofthe diocese; and 3. The ideological bias ofhis scientific thinking and his discoveries.
