Errores, actitud y desempeño matemático del ingresante universitario

    Para conocer los errores matemáticos típicos más fr ecuentes del ingresante universitario y analizar su vinculación con la actitud afectiva hacia la matemática y su rendimiento, se administró una Prueba Diagnóstica a 405 alumnos de Ciencias de la Salud que cursan la asignatura Matemática en el primer año de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Los alumnos tienen dificultades para: representar números racionales en la recta real (pero no para comparar fracciones); especializar una función ; aplicar propiedades de la potenciación; plantear matemáticamente enunciado s de problemas; y en menor medida, para resolver ecuaciones lineales. Se observó además que existe correlación entre el desempeño en el primer parcial de la asignatura y el desempeño en la Prueba Diagnóstica, la opinión del nivel matemático de la escuela, y la representación que tiene de la matemática.

    In order to know typical and most frequent mathemat ical errors of the student entering the University and analyze its linkage with the emotional attitude toward mathematics and their performance, a diagnostic test was administered to 405 students of Health Sciences attending the mathematics course in the first year of the University of Buenos Aires. Students have difficulties to: represent rational numbers on the real line (but not to compare fractions); evaluate a function; apply properties of powers; give the equation that models a problem; and to a lesser extent, for solving linear equations. It was also noted that there is a correlation between the performance in the first part of the course, the performance in the diagnostic test, the opinion of the mathematical level of the school, and the representation that students have about mathematics.
