Resumen de Tratamiento farmacológico del glaucoma de ángulo abierto

José Manuel Martínez Sesmero, A. Solórzano Martín, A. Cruz Martos, T. Molina García, C. Montojo Guillén

  • Glaucoma is characterized by a progressive injury of the optical nerve, whose main risk factor is the increase in intraocular pressure (IOP). The risk factors considered for presenting glaucoma are high IOP, age (infrequent in <40 years), black race (prevalence 4-16 times higher than in the white race), family history of glaucoma, myopia, diabetes, arterial hypertension and/or hypotension. Among the different types of glaucoma, the open-angle primary one represents 80-90% of the total cases. The purpose of our revision is to evaluate the criteria for selecting a specific medication, based on patient's general history, tolerance and both general and local adverse effects
