Resumen de Tratamiento de la biprotrusión dentaria

El rasgo más característico de las biprotrusiones dentarias es la excesiva prominencia de la dentadura, que se manifiesta por una desarmonía facial de carácter simiesco. Su tratamiento suele requerir de la extracción de los primeros premolares con el fin de enderezar los dientes anteriores sobre su hueso basal de soporte, dejando un perfil facial recto e incluso cóncavo. Por otra parte, una cierta prominencia bucodentaria es estéticamente muy apreciada, por cuanto significa de juventud y atractivo sexual del rostro. Desde esta perspectiva, en la corrección de las biprotrusiones dentarias se debe considerar la posición y angulación incisivas, así como la edad, el sexo y los deseos del paciente. En este trabajo se describe el tratamiento de varias formas de biprotrusión, con y sin extracciones, y los resultados funcionales y estéticos alcanzados años después de su finalización.

The most characteristic trait of dental biprotrusions is the excessive prominence of the denture as manifested by an ape-like facial disharmony. Usual treatment requires the extraction of first premolars and the uprighting of anterior teeth well over the basal bone, leaving a straight and even a concave facial profile. On the other hand, a certain bucodental prominence is very appreciated for its significance of the youth and sexual atractiveness given to the face. From this perspective, in the treatment of dental biprotrusions should be considered the incisors position and angulation, as well as the age, sex and esthetic preferences of the patient. In this article several types of treatment are presented and the final functional and esthetic results achieved, years after of its termination
