Resumen de O "Compleat account of the Portugueze language" e a primeira "Grammatica Anglo-Lusitanica" (Londres, 1701): a discussão da autoria de 1859 até 1970

The first Portuguese dictionary for English speakers was published under the title A "Compleat Account of the Portugueze Language" (London, 170 I), together with the bibliographically dependant "Grammatica Anglo-Lusitanica", which shortly after had two separate editions. As the whole metalinguistic compendium was published semi-anonymously by an author identified as A. J., the real authorship has been questioned since the mid 19th century. In the present paper, we present and discuss the historical proposals, offered by bibliographers and scholars up to 1970.

O primeiro dicionário de português para falantes anglófonos foi publicado sob o título "A Compleat Account of the Portugueze Language" (Londres, 1701), junto com o anexo intitulado "Grammatica Anglo-Lusitanica", que então era bibliograficamente dependente, mas logo a seguir teve duas edições independentes. Dado que todo o compêndio metalinguístico foi publicado semianonimamente por um autor que se identifica como A. J., a verdadeira autoria tem sido questionada desde meados do século XIX. No presente artigo, apresentamos e discutimos as propostas históricas oferecidas por bibliógrafos e investigadores até 1970.
