    Las mujeres españolas no pudieron votar hasta 1931, cuando se les reconoció este derecho en la Constitución de la Segunda República. Tal reconocimiento no fue sencillo, debido a la oposición de parte de los miembros de las Cortes Constituyentes. Algunos querían simplemente excluir a la mujer de la vida política. Otros pensaban que la mujer debía votar, pero más adelante, ya que creían que aún no era lo suficientemente independiente de la Iglesia, el marido o el padre. Por último, estaban aquéllos que afirmaban que la democracia exige la participación de las mujeres. Ésta era la opinión de Clara Campoamor, que participó en la redacción de la Constitución y, tras un enorme esfuerzo, consiguió el reconocimiento de los derechos electorales de las mujeres. En este trabajo, estudiamos cómo se logró tal reconocimiento, utilizando los Diarios de Sesiones de las Cortes Constituyentes y los escritos de la propia Clara Campoamor

    Spanish women were not able to vote until 1931, when they were recognized this right in the Constitution of the Second Republic. This recognition was not easy, because of the opposition of several members of the Constituent Assembly. Some of them wanted to exclude women from politics. Others thought women should be able to vote but not in that moment, because they believed women were not independent enough from priests or their husband or father. Finally, there were those who affirmed that democracy requires participation of women. This one was the opinion of Clara Campoamor, who took part in the writing of the Constitution and, after a great effort, achieved the recognition of the electoral rights of women.

    In this work, we study how this recognition was get, using the reports of debates in the Constituent Assembly and Clara Campoamor’s writings.
