En 1987 el antiguo hospital construido por Río Tinto Company Limited en 1927 para la atención de sus empleados, pasa a ser gestionado por Fundación Río Tinto, Institución Cultural Privada, sin ánimo de lucro y de carácter permanente, que tiene como fin la conservación y restauración del Patrimonio Histórico Minero del Comarca de Riotinto. Así desde fines de los años ochenta Fundación Río Tinto acomete un proyecto de recuperación del antiguo hospital, siguiendo las directrices de la arquitectura inglesa, con el objeto de albergar la cultura material generada por 5.000 años de explotación minera. En 1992 este edificio volvió a abrir sus puertas con una nueva función, ser la sede del Museo Minero de Riotinto.

In 1987, the former English hospital built by Río Tinto Company Limited in 1927 to attend the medical needs of the staff in Riotinto became managed by Rio Tinto Foundation for the study of mining and metallurgy. Non-profitable private cultural institution, whose aim is the conservation and restoration of the historical heritage since the end of the 80´s, Rio Tinto Foundation has been carrying a project to recover the old hospital following the English architectural patterns with the aim to house all the archaeological and historical artifacts produced by 5.000 years of mining activity in the area. In 1992, this building opened again with a new purpose: to be the central building of the Mining Museum.
