Resumen de Intorno a Piero di Cosimo: il filo rosso di alcune attribuzioni sbagliate

Serena Padovani

  • Looking ahead to the Piero di Cosimo exhibitions, which will open in 2015 in the two venues of the National Gallery of Washington and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the author proposes an overview of the artist's extensive catalogue of paintings, many of them masterpieces but often in poor condition, and their debated chronology. She examines certain problems of attribution involving this intriguing protagonist of late-15th and early 16th Florentine painting. The 'erroneous attributions' discussed hare underline the stylistic intricacies that have understandably resulted in grouping certain works under Piero di Cosimo's name, but which she proposes to attibute to other artists close to him in style (principally Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio), while reconsidering one or even two paintings as autograph works by Cosimo himself.
