El Real Monasterio de Santa María de Guadalupe desarrolló una importante actividad artística y musical en el setecientos �Edad de Plata�, propiciada por una nueva y favorable situación económica. Es en este mismo período cuando algunos de los más insignes músicos jerónimos desempeñan su tarea y cuando la capilla musical se moderniza, se adquieren nuevos instrumentos de orquesta, o se construyen los dos monumentales órganos de los Liborna (padre e hijo). A las composiciones de los maestros jerónimos que se conservan en el archivo guadalupense y que datan de esta época �más de quinientas� hay que sumar las que se recibieron de otros centros religiosos y civiles. En el presente trabajo se pretende no sólo poner de manifiesto el desarrollo musical del Monasterio durante esta época, sino también dar cuenta de las relaciones musicales que los monjes guadalupenses tuvieron con algunos de los mejores compositores españoles del momento, favoreciendo la recepción de nueva música para su uso litúrgico.

The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Guadalupe developed an important artistic and musical activity in the eighteenth century �the Silver Age�, thanks to a new and favourable economic situation. It is in this same period that some of the most distinguished Hieronymite musicians work at the Monastery and that the music chapel is modernized, new orchestral instruments are acquired, or two monumental organs of the Liborna family (father and son) are constructed. To the compositions of the Hieronymite masters remaining in the archives of the Monastery and dating from this time �more than five hundred� should be added those received of other religious and civil centres. The present study aims to reveal not only the musical development of the Monastery at this period, but also the musical relationships which the monks of Guadalupe maintained with the best Spanish musicians of the moment, thus favouring the reception of new music for liturgical use.
