    Muchas de las mujeres que dan a luz experimentan traumatismos perineales, que son la mayor causa de morbilidad posparto. Se han realizado estudios sobre diferentes intervenciones clínicas aplicadas en el periodo antenatal o durante el parto para valorar sus efectos sobre el traumatismo del tracto genital.

    Es de interés el manejo perineal en la segunda etapa del parto, en la que se proponen dos alternativas, una activa, protegiendo manualmente el periné y sujetando la cabeza para aumentar la flexión, y otra expectante, manteniendo la mano preparada por si fuera necesario evitar una deflexión demasiado rápida.

    Esta revisión tiene como objetivo comparar la técnica de protección perineal expectante con la activa, para determinar cuál proporciona mejores resultados en la salud de las mujeres.

    Most childbearing women experience trauma to the genital tract, being the main cause of postpartum morbidity. Different techniques, applied during the antenatal period or during labour, have been proposed to assess their effect on perineal trauma during childbirth.

    It is of great interest the perineal management in the second stage of labor, in which two alternatives have been proposed, the active posture versus the expectant posture. While in the active posture, the health professional supports the perineum and put pressure on the baby's head in the belief that flexion will be increased, in the expectant posture we keep the hand ready to put light pressure on the baby's head in case of rapid expulsion.

    This literature review aims to compare the technique of expectant perineal protection versus the active one in order to determine which provides better health outcomes for women.
