    El siglo XVII es decisivo en el asentamiento y la difusión, entre una parte importante de la sociedad novohispana, de la amplia gama de significados de la arquitectura y de su nueva imagen. Esta imagen se había generalizado en el virreinato a raíz del surgimiento de la identidad criolla, ya desde la centuria anterior. Una de sus principales manifestaciones serán los textos dedicados a glosar las glorias de las ciudades del virreinato en las que se aprecia una manera muy definida de referirse a la arquitectura.

    The XVIIth century was crucial in the settlement and dissemination, between an important part of New Spain society, of the wide range of meanings of architecture and its new image. This image was widespread in the viceroyalty with the emergence of the creole identity, already from the previous century. One of its main manifestations will be the texts devoted to the glories of the cities of the Viceroyalty. In these texts there is a very well-defined manner to refer to the architecture.
