A política do consenso visa a tornar sentido comum e implícito o que é historicamente arbitrário. Uma das maneiras para o poder se legitimar é representada pola monopolização/estandarização linguistica. As línguas representam a alma das culturas; neste sentido, assistimos muitas vezes a políticas desanimadoras. Por detrás destas políticas, ditas de integração, reside uma lógica de naturalização das hierarquias. Uma crítica às retóricas públicas e às estratégias de representação social pode permitir uma reavaliação ética e política das práticas de mediação cultural.

A power that intends to establish a general consensus about itself means to tranform what is historically arbitrary into something implicit and common sense. One way that allows the power to legitimize itself is represented by the linguistic monopolization- standardization. The languages represent the soul of cultures; in this sense, we contemplate discouraging policies being implemented. Behind these policies, known as integrative, lies a logic that denies the differences and makes hierarchies natural. Criticism of the public rhetoric and strategies of the social representation of cultural differences may allow a re-evaluation of the ethical and political issues of the cultural mediation practices.
