A felsic volcanic activity developed during lower-Permian times at the SW Spain is noted for the first time. Petrographic and facies analyses of the "grey beds" of the Permian Viar Basin show a explosive volcanic activity, dacitic and rhyolitic in composition. "Grey beds" are constituted by a sequence of pyroclastic, redeposited volcaniclastic and propery sedimentary rocks which is here renamed "Grey Volcanoclastic Sequence"
