El tema de la violencia, ha sido tratado por el arte de nuestro país. El ensayo pretende acercarse a una de las obras más importantes de nuestro tiempo en Colombia, la de José Alejandro Restrepo. La violencia se aborda allí desde la creencia religiosa y en ella la imagen adquiere un estatus fundamental, cercana a la idea de verdad. En este ensayo ponemos al descubierto la relación arte y política, donde la religión y la violencia sostienen un matrimonio bastante complejo.

The topic of violence is one which has been discussed in detail by artists in our country, especially since the seventies. This essay approaches one of the most impor-tant bodies of art work in present-day Colombia, that of José Alejandro Restrepo. Violence is approached from the standpoint of religious faith; thus image acquires an essential status, close to the idea of truth. This essay treats the relationship between art and politics, and the complex marriage between religion and violence which arises from it.
