In spite of comparable construction, the wheel fans dealt with do not show a static/balanced pattern of distribution - neither chronologically nor geographically. There are also concise differences in their style. The gold and silver examples from Cochlac and Gültingen represent the luxury class, while the pieces of the Talmaza type satand for the "culture of the masses". The fans represent in the European barbaricum a cultural phenomenon of provincial-Roman origins. However, it is not possible to determine where these examples were produced.
The fact that fans were not first imported from Asis into Europe in modern times, but rather were already known in Antiquity, is now verified by archaeological finds in addition to pictorial sources.
