    En los años cincuenta y sesenta, el Tribunal Supremo de los Estados Unidos presidido por Earl Warren transformó el derecho constitucional americano al ampliar los derechos individuales. Pero en los años ochenta hizo su aparición una nueva organización de pensamiento jurídico conservador, la Sociedad Federalista, que propugnaba un nuevo activismo judicial de tinte conservador que revocase los más significativos pronunciamientos de la era Warren. Con Rehnquist como presidente del Tribunal Supremo, pareció que las tesis de este nueva escuela de pensamiento prevalecerían en un Tribunal en el que siete jueces debían su cargo a presidentes republicanos, pero no fue así. El libro de Jeffrey Toobin The nine nos explica cómo y por qué fracasaron estos esfuerzos del conservadurismo judicial.

    In the fifties and sixties, under the lidership of chief justice Warren, the United Stated Supreme Court shaped the American constitutional law expanding the individual rights. But in the eighties appeared a new conservative school of legal thought, the Federalist Society, which defended a new judicial activism on the right to reverse the most eminent decisions of the Warren era. During the tenure of chief justice Rehnquist it appeared that the views of this new ideological movement would prevail in a Supreme Court with seven justices appointed by republican presidents, but it didn´t. Jeffrey Toobin´s The nine shows us how and why the efforts of this conservative movement have failed.
