  • Resumen
    • Constipation continues to be one of the most frequent problems both in primary and specialized care consultations, mainly during the first year of life. While it is not a serious disorder, it is a situation that produces great anguish for the patient and the family. In 90-95% of cases, constipation is functional (idiopathic) and for its diagnosis a good anamnesis and a thorough physical examination are enough. The treatment of constipation is based on therapeutic measures that include disimpaction and maintenance treatment that consists of proper dietary and behavioral habits, and pharmacological treatment with laxatives, if necessary. Following a systematic review of the subject, we see that these treatment guidelines have changed in the last decade, so the purpose of this article is to review the characteristics of constipation, inform of the latest developments in the handling of constipation in infants, and give recommendations that can be made from the pharmacy office
