    Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, segundo Presidente de la democracia, ha pasado en buena medida inadvertido en el estudio de la Transición. Sin embargo, su papel en la que se ha venido conociendo como la Transición exterior ha sido destacado. Fue un europeísta que participó de manera activa en la negociación de adhesión de España a las CEE. Este artículo presenta documentación inédita del Archivo personal del ex presidente y se centra en lo que él consideraba cuestiones claves: por qué la política ha de ser central en la construcción europea y en la negociación para la adhesión de España al Mercado Común

    Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, second president of Spanish democracy, had an important but sometimes unobserved role in the researches of the Transition. However, his work in the Foreign Transition was very important. Calvo-Sotelo was a man who defended his pro-European ideal and helped in this way, with the promotion of Spain's join into the Common Market. This paper has the basis on his personal Archive documentation, and offers his thoughts about the topic: why Spain has join into the European Community, why politics were the key in European integration and in the negotiations for the admission of Spain to the CEE
