This article examines the politicization process lived in La Rioja, a small agricultural region of inland, in the early years of the Second Republic. Through a very valuable source, the town council correspondence preserved in the civil government of the province, it is possible to approach the daily life of small villages. The research shows that political struggle is not confined to electoral participation; it reveals the importance of collective action and social movements to understand a complex, intense and widespread democratization process that no corresponds to the historiographical paradigm of a backward rural world, away from the deep social, economical and cultural changes of this crucial historic period.
