    Se exponen los resultados obtenidos sobre la interacción entre las sociedades humanas y el medio natural dentro del proyecto de investigación Poblamiento y explotación del territorio en la región de Guadix-Baza durante la época medieval, dirigido por Maryelle Bertrand entre 1999 y 2006, y se plantean problemáticas que han quedado por resolver, especialmente sobre la influencia del hombre en la configuración actual de la vegetación, la explotación de las zonas de alta montaña de Sierra Nevada, la evolución histórica de la ganadería, y la relación de la geomorfología del valle fluvial del río Guadix con la historia de la ciudad.

    In this paper we would like to show our conclusions about the interaction between the human society and the natural environment; these results were obtained within the framework of the research project Human settlement and explotation of the territory in the region of Guadix-Baza during the Middle Ages, directed by Maryelle Bertrand between 1999 and 2006. We also discuss some unresolved issues, particularly about the human impact on the present configuration of the vegetation and the exploitation of the upper areas of the Sierra Nevada, or the historical evolution of livestock farming, as well as the relation of the fluvial geomorphology of the river valley of Guadix with the history of this city.
