Resumen de O nacionalismo do Estado Novo e a arte popular: reflexoes sobre a obra de Rosa Ramalho

The Estado Novo regime was defined, in terms of ideology, during the last years of the 1920's and the first of the following decade. For that purpose, museums, temporary exhibitions, monumentos and other items of heritage were systematically used and shaped to the will of the regime. One of the strongest facetes of the Estado Novo was nationalism, demanding a definition of what could and should be considered as "truly Portuguese". Besides historical deeds and heroes, the popular, the genuine rural, was also adopted by the regime as one of the "Portuguese" identity marks. From Minho to Algarve (or to Timor...) Portugal was defined by the authenticity of its popular traditions. In this scenario we will try to interpret the presence and production of Rosa Ramalho.

A definiçao ideológica do Estado Novo realizou-se ao longo da Ditadura Militar e nos anos iniciais do regime. Para tal, museus, exposiçoes temporárias, monumentos e outras peças de património foram sistematicamente empregues. Um dos aspectos essenciais do regime era a sua faceta nacionalista, que exigia a definiçao do que poderia ser considerado verdadeiramente "Português". Para além dos feitos históricos, dos heróis e das idades de ouro nacionais, o popular, o vernáculo, o genuinamente rural foi também adoptado pelo nacionalismo do Estado Novo. Do Minho ao Algarve (ou a Timor...) Portugal definia-se (também) pela autenticidade das tradiçoes populares. Neste cenário colocaremos a nossa análise acerca do fenómeno de Rosa Ramalho.
