  • Resumen
    • Business History in Latin America continues being a recent speciality of contemporary Economic History. In Mexico there are already pioneering studies, but still the distance that separates this tradition from Business History in Europe and North America is considerable. One of the reasons for which this type of studies is difficult to carry out is the limited access to the private archives of the Companies, or to the enterprise family documents, or to the partial or absolute loss of such items. Therefore, the official use of statistics, reports or account balances published by the Management Board of Trustees or share holders of these companies, become the almost unique testimonies on which the historians count, to decipher the complex world of the industrial society, of which almost all these companies have emerged up today. This paper shows in three parts the present state-of-the-art on the historiography of the modern limited companies in the western world and the alternatives historians have in Mexico to work with private archives of share holding companies, choosing some regional cases.
