O artigo presenta uns apuntamentos introdutorios sobre a amigración galega na área de Nova York na primeira metade do século XX. A través da análise dunha área determinada e de tradicional emigración a este destino - os concellos de Bergondo, Sada e Oleiros - vaise revelando o perfil deses emigrantes tanto no lugar de saída como no de destino. Aténdese tamén a actividade societaria que os galegos desenvolveron en Nova York dende finais do século XIX e ata o momento máis dinámico que coincide coa chegada dos exiliados galegos despois do comezo da Guerra Civil.

The article contains an introduction on Galician emigration in the area of New York during the first half of the 20th century. The analysis of a certain area and traditional emigration to this destination (the districts of Bergondo, Sada and Oleiros) reveals the profile of the emigrants at their place of departure and destination. Consideration is also given to the business activity carried out by Galicians in New York as from the end of the 19th century to the most dynamic period, which coincides with the arrival of the Galician exiles after the Spanish civil war began.
