Resumen de El Devónico al sur de Cabeza del Buey (provincias de Badajoz y Córdoba, España).

Miguel Vicente Pardo Alonso

  • The Devonian rocks (mainly of Frasnian age) of the northern limb of Los Pedroches Syncline, near the Cabeza del Buey-Belalcazar road, show some differences with those of neighbourin synclines. The Abulagar Formation (Frasnian 'Unidad 1'), begins with a conglomerate unit that represents the resumption of sedimentation conditions after a meso-devonian sedimentary gap. Near the Frasnian/Famennian boundary, a new quartzithic unit (the so-called Zujar Member) has been found. The Frasnian biozonation previously established in the Almaden syndine, works also in the Cabeza del Buey area and it has been largely used here for geological mapping. Strong faulting tectonics affects the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary of the area as everywhere in the Los Pedroches northern limb
