      Los medios del tercer sector o medios alternativos tienen una larga trayectoria en el panorama audiovisual y en defensa del derecho a la información y la libertad de expresión.

      A pesar de estar reconocidos por organismos internacionales como la ONU, lo cierto es que los estados les niegan su respaldo legal. Reino Unido es la excepción. En España, la nueva Ley General de la Comunicación Audiovisual, aprobada en 2010, los respalda. Sin embargo, un año y medio después de su aprobación, la realidad es otra bien diferente. El presente artículo hace un recorrido histórico y legal de los llamados medios del tercer sector y se centra en las radios comunitarias españolas y en los principales problemas a los que se enfrentan.

      The media of the Third Sector or alternative media have a long way in the audio-visual panorama and in defense of the right to the information and the freedom of expression.

      In spite of being recognized by international organizations as the UN, the certain thing is that the conditions deny his legal support to them. United Kingdom is the exception. In Spain, the new General Law of the Audio-visual Communication, approved in 2010, endorses them. Nevertheless, one year and a half after its approval, the reality is different.

      The present article does a historical and legal tour of the so called means of the third sector and centres on the community Spanish radioes and in the principal problems which they face.
